SHAH ALAM (Sin Chew Daily) — The seventh edition of Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards 2019 recently came to a perfect conclusion with Kossan Rubber Industries Berhad group managing director cum CEO Tan Sri Datuk Lim Kuang Sia being honoured for Lifetime Excellence Achievement while Senheng Electric (KL) Sdn Bhd managing director Lim Kim Heng being named Business Excellence Person of the Year.

The award presentation ceremony was held at Setia City Convention Centre on November 1. The guest of honour for the evening was minister in the prime minster’s department Datuk Seri Liew Vui Keong’s political secretary Martin Tommy.

In addition to the above two awards, the other ten categories of Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards 2019 are Business Sustainability Excellence Award, CIMB–Sin Chew Regional Excellence Awards, Retail Excellence Award, Product Excellence Award, Business Service Excellence Award, Manufacturing Excellence Award, Digital and Technology Business Excellence Award, CSR Excellence Award, Property Excellence Award, and Young/Emerging Business Excellence Award.

A total of 137 winners have been honoured during the ceremony.

Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards 2019 is jointly organised by Sin Chew Daily and Sinchew.com.my. Among the partners are Fine Paper Takeo Sdn Bhd, Skynet Worldwide (M) Sdn Bhd and Setia City Convention Centre.

Grant Thornton Malaysia is the auditor of this award event.

‘Do the right thing’

Kossan Rubber Industries Berhad group managing director cum CEO Tan Sri Datuk Lim Kuang Sia said the secret of his success was “doing the right thing, and doing it right!”

“The company has been set up for more than 40 years but I’m still full of passion for this business. It’s my value system and the lifelong learning habit that have kept me until this day.”

Lim also said we needed to have positive thinking in order to solve all our problems, and create value with integrity and learn to share with other people in creating a win-win relation.

He said a thankful heart was also very important.

“To be honest, the value that I’m cherishing is very simple, but to put it into practice is by no means easy.”

Towards paperless operation

Meanwhile, Senheng Electric (KL) Sdn Bhd founder cum managing director Lim Kim Heng encouraged SMEs in the country to transform themselves into Senheng’s modern retailing model

He also urged the industry to adopt the paperless operation in creating a greener environment.

Lim Kim Heng, who was awarded the Business Excellence Person of the Year at the award presentation ceremony, said Senheng was operating in the traditional retail model during its first ten years since inception in 1989. However, the company began its modernisation exercise since 2000, and has gone through a total of six transformation efforts to date.

“We have managed to cut down 90% of paper use. Of course, we hope to achieve 100% paperless target soon.”

Senheng Electric is the first Malaysian retailer to have migrated to the new retailing model.

“Many SMEs have heard of our success in retail transformation. I would like to encourage Malaysian SMEs to do the same as we move towards the era of new retailing together.”
