Who is Choy San Yeh?

KUALA LUMPUR: Who is Choy San Yeh (Cantonese for “God of Prosperity”), the independent candidate in Seputeh? Even her rivals are curious about her real identity.

The other four contestants in Seputeh, namely Teresa Kok (Pakatan Harapan), Lee Kah Hing (Barisan Nasional), Wong Yee Yeng (Perikatan Nasional) and independent candidate Lee Wai Hong all say they know nothing about Choy San Yeh, who unveiled her election manifesto yesterday.

Lee Wai Hong said Choy’s so-called manifesto was more like a hate essay than an election manifesto.

“My first impression is, the manifesto is targeting specifically Pakatan Harapan.

“I believe she could have been a loyal supporter of PH last time, but later became frustrated and disenchanted because of the policies of the PH government.”

He told Sin Chew Daily in a telephone interview that he hoped Choy would contest in the election seriously and not just trying to draw the public’s attention by her weird behavior.

“I don’t believe such negative forces can make a country great. I hope this candidate will come forward and let the votes inspect her and know more about her election manifesto.”

Lee also clarified that this independent candidate, whose real name is Lian Choy Ling, should be 55 years old and not 44 as the media have reported. He also confirmed that the candidate is a female.

DAP’s Teresa Kok described Choy San Yeh’s manifesto as “somewhat peculiar” and had no idea what her real position was.

She said she did not know Choy personally nor the woman who came  to nominate her on the nomination day.

MCA’s Lee Kah Hing also has no idea who Choy San Yeh and her agent are, saying he hopes he could meet up with her.

“I only managed to see that woman, but have no idea whether that was only her representative or Choy San Yeh herself.

“I totally don’t know this person. I have no idea where her action room is or where she lives, but I still think it’s good to have more people coming out to contest.”

He nevertheless admitted that he had yet to read Choy’s manifesto and therefore could not comment on it.

In the meantime, Gerakan Rakyat’s Wong Yee Yeng said everyone had his own views and he respected Choy San Yeh’s manifesto.

“I would accept any part of her manifesto that I agree to. As for those parts that are unrealistic, I would just ignore with a smile.

“Anyway, any election manifesto has to be established upon the well-being of the people. Nothing comes more important than serving the people!”
