NAJIB|I hold no grudge against the Chinese

In an exclusive interview with Sin Chew Daily, Najib said he believes that the Chinese would still be looking forward to a good life with stability that they have enjoyed prior to the 14th General Election (2018).

I hold no grudge against the Chinese.

Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said he does not have a grudge against anyone, including the Chinese, except fo.

The Barisan Nasional coalition led by Najib lost in the 2018 election. The defeat was attributed to Chinese tsunami which ended Barisan’s the 61-year rule as the government of Malaysia.

In an exclusive interview with Sin Chew Daily, Najib said he believes that the Chinese would still be looking forward to stability that they have enjoyed prior to the 14th General Election (2018).

“Back then, business was good, share market was at its all time high, foreign investors were coming in, the country was peaceful and stable, we had close ties with China and everyone had a chance to make money. If these are the things that the Chinese community is looking for, then the Chinese should choose Barisan,’’ he said.

In the 2018 General Election, Barisan Nasional was defeated as the ruling government and a whopping 95% of the Chinese supported Pakatan Harapan led by Tun Dr Mahathir then.

Najib said there is no right or wrong for the Chinese not supporting BN in the past as series of political propaganda have misled the Chinese.

“It is not the fault of the Chinese for not supporting Barisan. Basically, majority of the Chinese have been misled by the political propaganda of the opposition. This is the main reason but there are other factors too,’’ he said.

If the Barisan were to be the ruling government again, the coalition would need to learn from the mistakes to improve its weaknesses for the government to be stronger, he said.

Najib hopes that the Chinese community would check the information released by the DAP as there were too many distorted versions of the political propaganda after the 14th General Elections. Many of the allegations have since been proven as false.

“I feel that each time when the Chinese community read the statements, they would need to verify whether they are true,’’ he said.

During the entire interview, Najib named Dr Mahathir as the person he holds a grudge.

“Except for Dr Mahathir, I hold no grudge against anyone. As I did not give him what he had wanted, he continued to slander me,’’ said Najib.

Prior to the 14th General Election, Najib said Dr Mahathir has been repeating the same thing against him like a broken record.

When asked for the reason that the Chinese community did not support MCA in the past two elections, Najib said to some extent, MCA had been punished in an unfair manner. MCA was caught up with the ` anti-Umno’ or “anti-Barisan” wave since the 12th General Elections in 2008. The sentiment continued in the 13th and 14th General Elections.

“Based on my experience, MCA has good and competent leaders. It works hard to defend the Chinese community and Malaysians as a whole. I hope Malaysians, especially the Chinese, would give MCA another chance,’’ he said.

Najib agreed that several Umno leaders were arrogant and some of the policies under the Barisan regime had resulted in MCA losing Chinese support.

“If I have a chance, I would be take stern and immediate action against those arrogant leaders in order to win the trust and support of the Chinese community. Barisan has no room for such leaders,’’ he said.

Some of the DAP leaders are arrogant too, said Najib.

“For instance, the tunnel guy claims that he is not a corrupt. As the trial proceeds, one can see he has lied. The greatest lie is that the government would go bankrupt under me. The national debt would hit RM1 trillion but in fact it was RM66 billion. We should not condone such lies,’’ he said.

When asked how would Umno assist MCA to regain the support from the Chinese community as the big brother in Barisan, Najib said: “ I do not like the concept of big brother and little brother. We are on the same side and we work together to win the support of the people. I feel that we should support and work closely but not accepting the concept of big brother.
