Malaysia should adopt moderation, tolerance and inclusiveness for all ethnic groups and religions, said Barisan Nasional advisory board chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
He said this when asked to comment on current issues – name of local whisky Timah come under attack, liquor ban in Kuala Lumpur and gambling ban in Kedah which see Malaysia becoming more Islamic in the latest development.

The recent development is caused by an unstable and weak federal government while some politicians are trying to gain political mileage with religious and racial issues, he said.
Najib, who is also a former Prime Minister and former Umno president, shared his views in an exclusive interview by Sin Chew Daily at his home in Jalan Langgak Duta.
Umno or the Malay community, Najib said everyone is still believing in the concept of 1Malaysia or Keluarga Malaysia.

“We adopt moderation and Umno is never a racist party. You should not think so just because of statements released by one or two Umno (extreme) leaders. We defend the spirit of diversity in Malaysia,’’ he said.
The two-week controversy centred on the name of local whisky Timah ended with the Cabinet retaining the name of the local whisky. However, the liquor ban imposed in Kuala Lumpur and the decision by Kedah state government not to renew gaming licence continued to spark racism disputes.
