TAIPEI: Both China and Taiwan should work together, especially in artificial intelligence, says former president of Taiwan Ma Ying-jeou.
“This will be the best solution for both. There is no need to fight.
“Most Taiwanese think this way, with the exception of those who support the independence of Taiwan. But they are only a minority group,” he said.
Ma said Taiwan had to work much harder in the face of stiff competition from China.
Nevertheless, Taiwan is strong in artificial intelligence, so does China, said Ma, who is also the chairman of Ma Ying-jeou Foundation.
He told Media Chinese International Limited and Sin Chew Daily editor-in-chief Kuik Cheng Kang in an exclusive interview that both sides should work together to complement each other.
Ma does not think the rise of China will affect Taiwan’s competitive edge.
“I’m not so worried. Taiwan has its space to survive and can collaborate with China.
“Many Taiwanese are doing business in China. This has become a win-win.
“I think this is the way forward,” he asserted.
