PUTRAJAYA: Transport Minister Anthony Loke describes the rapid development in China as “stunning”.

“The rapid rise of the People’s Republic of China in 75 years has changed the outlook of China,” said Loke.

Although China’s development model is different from that of Malaysia, it is still good to learn from China in economy, technology and public utilities, said Loke.

“The fast-paced development has provided Malaysia a good opportunity to refer and learn from China,” he said.

In an exclusive interview with Sin Chew Daily, Loke said China’s economy and technology were indeed lagging initially, but the lives of the Chinese people have improved tremendously in the past 75 years.

“Beijing is very different today from 20 years ago. Major metropolises of China such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou have reached the global standard of developed countries.

“The international airports in China are even more advanced than those in the United States. The public facilities are amazing. We can see that China is becoming a very modern country now,” he said.

Loke, who accompanied His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim on his state visit to China last month, shared his personal feelings when asked about the development in China.

His Majesty, who ascended the throne on 31 January 2024, was invited by President Xi Jinping to visit China from 19 to 22 September.
