RANTAU PANJANG: Adrian Hakimi Mohd Don was busy sending flood relief items to flood victims when he received a distress call from a single mother asking for milk.

The Facebook blogger of Rantau Panjang Post heard a baby’s cries of hunger while communicating with the single mother on the phone seeking help.

Adrian Hakimi went round looking for milk until he found a bottle of milk at a petrol station.

Bracing against strong currents, he managed to deliver the milk to Kampung Banggol Kulim in Rantau Panjang by a boat with two other relief  members.

“The baby stopped crying the moment he finished the bottle of milk,” he said.

Unfortunately, while he was leaving the place, the boat was trapped by some plants and he had to go into the water to check.

The strong current pushed a piece of zinc towards him, cutting both his legs.

Bleeding profusely, Adrian Hakimi was rushed to a clinic at Gual Tinggi, and the wound was treated with six stitches.

Due to the shortage of supply, Adrian Hakimi had to endure the pain of stitching in the absence of anaesthetics.

Adrian Hakimi continued with relief mission until Info Banjir Kelantan, another Facebook page, wrote about Rantau Panjang Post for the flood relief help extended to local folks.

“Whenever Rantau Panjang is flooded, the Rantau Panjang Post will be helping flood victims by sending them drinking water and pampers.

“They are among the first to arrive to deliver the relief items.

“Adrian Hakimi Mohd Don is still going around helping the flood victims although he is in pain now due to the leg injury caused by a piece of zinc,” said the post.

A week later, Adrian Hakimi dropped by a Chinese temple known as Toking Mek by the locals in Rantau Panjang, where Sin Chew Foundation and Buddhist group Fo Guang Shan had set up a relief centre offering medical services to flood victims.

The medical team checked Adrian Hakimi’s wound at the temple.

Reverend Zhi Xuan and Yayasan Sin Chew deputy chairman Siew Nyoke Chow were present when Adrian Hakimi received medical treatment.

Originated in Pasir Puteh, Adrian Hakimi, who owns several burger stalls, has settled down in Rantau Panjang for years.

He set up Rantau Panjang Post to help the locals via social media as a way of paying back to the society when he was still young.

Rantau Panjang Post with 280,000 fans has a total of three administrators and a team of 30 volunteers helping behind the scene, including police, teachers and a doctor.
