TAIPEI/BENTONG: A 31-year-old internet celebrity who has been missing in Taiwan since 11 December, is finally found.

A Malaysian arrested by the police in Taiwan is actually the missing person his family in Malaysia is searching.

Ady Hu is arrested by the police in Changhua County, Taiwan, for alleged fraud while the family sought help from Lee Chin Chen, Deputy Speaker of the Pahang state legislative assembly and Bilut state assemblyman, to look for him.

Hu’s parents in Bentong last heard from him on 11 December, when he sent a text message to his mother saying he enjoyed travelling and would stay longer in Taiwan.

His mother was worried about him as he used to communicate with her through voice messages instead of a text message.

Unable to reach him on the phone, Hu’s parents sought help from Lee who held a press conference to trace him.

Hu’s father lodged a missing-person report with the police in Bentong on this Monday.

Taiwan-based news portal ETtoday reported that the police had arrested a 31-year-old man from Malaysia for allegedly working as a runner for a scam syndicate in Taiwan.

A 40-year-old woman from Changhua County had earlier lodged a report with the police against an investment portal through which she had lost 2.3 million Taiwan dollars (RM316,000).

Hu was arrested by the police on the spot when the woman handed him over 2 million Taiwan dollars last Wednesday.

Hu, who sells products on Facebook live and lives in Kuala Lumpur, was unaware that he had been working for a scam syndicate and claimed he was provided free accommodation in Taiwan for both work and leisure.

Changhua County Police confirmed that the arrested Malaysian man was Hu, and that the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia had been informed.
